Dr. Yasushi Shimada is currently a professor and chairman at department of cariology and Operative Dentistry, Institute of Science Tokyo. Yasushi graduated from Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 1987 and received PhD degree in 1922 for the study on biocompatibility of adhesive systems to the pulp. He later participated in joint research with the National Institute of Standards and Technology from 1997 to 1999 for evaluation of adhesive materials to develop a micro-shear bond test. In 2007, he also joined in the project to develop a two-paste calcium phosphate cement. From 2010, he was a member of the project to develop a dental optical coherence tomography system, and he played a major role in carrying out the research. The dental OCT system in now approved for clinical usage in Japan from 2020. He is conducting several projects for the development of a new remineralization therapy for dental caries and evaluation of adhesive materials, as well as microbiome analysis of dental caries.
