Minimally Invasive Management of Temporomandibular Disorders: From Confusion to Conclusion

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Managing temporomandibular disorders (TMD) effectively requires shifting toward an integrated, evidence-based, patient centered paradigm. Conventional management strategies have traditionally included pharmacotherapy, physiotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and occlusal appliance therapy which remains a cornerstone in the management of TMD. In recent years, minimally invasive techniques have gained increasing attention due to their effectiveness, and improved patient outcomes.

By analyzing the latest clinical data, we will discuss current minimally invasive approaches in the management of TMD, with particular emphasis on CAD/CAM occlusal appliance therapy, botulinum toxin injections, and regenerative injection therapies such as prolotherapy and concentrated growth factor (CGF) injections.
