This lecture will report on findings of a retrospective clinical trial study that was conducted to determine longevity and clinical performance of premolar and more crowns made with glass ceramic CAD-CAM blocks and provided by under-graduate dental students at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. Participating students were in their final year of the DDS program and for each crown, preparation, impression-taking, milling, crystallization and cementation had to
be completed in the same day. Crowns were cemented with resin cement. Crown preparation design will be discussed as well as virtual impression taking and crown design. Five-years post insertion, participants were invited to attend a re-call examination. At these visits, crowns were assessed according to the CDA criteria and guidelines. The assessment included conducting clinical examination, taking intra-oral photographs and X-rays. For each crown, findings were assessed by two experienced clinicians and crowns were ranked accordingly. Results of this study will be presented in detail.
