Gingival recession is a phenomenon that can be pathologic or physiologic. Gingival recession occurs in a context of poor oral hygiene coupled with factors that may include trauma, faulty tooth brushing, and some dental procedures. Gingival recession leads to root exposure. Teeth with gingival recession may be subject to sensitivity, root caries, bone loss, and poor cosmetics.
