Monolithic restorations have become widely used in Dentistry as they enable the complete digital workflow for time-efficient and cost-effective treatment. Zirconia is an attractive material for producing monolithic restorations due to its excellent mechanical properties and ever improving optical properties. Furthermore, in order to produce a restoration with a more natural-looking appearance, novel single- and multi-composition cubic-containing zirconias were developed. This presentation will highlight the properties of novel translucent zirconia ceramics and correlate with their clinical indications, discussing the potentials and limitations for prosthodontics. Factors affecting the clinical success of zirconia restorations will be discussed. Additionally, future directions on the development of new materials will be presented.
